Switchover to Digital Voice: REMINDER
The switchover to digital voice by BT (and other providers) will be a problem for some Baldons residents. This is because we have poor mobile reception AND we are prone to power cuts.
Previously in power cuts we could at least use the landline. Digital voice will mean your landline won’t work in a power cut. You will be reliant on your mobile phone. If you can get a signal.
In addition, some healthcare alarms (e.g. emergency response alarms), medical pendants (e.g. wearable fall detection devices) and security systems (e.g. burglar alarms) won't work with Digital Voice.
- Contact your provider:
For most providers, you can dial 150 from your landline to reach their customer service. If that doesn't work, find the direct number on your phone bill.
- Inform them you're vulnerable:
Clearly state that you are contacting them because you are vulnerable and require additional support during the digital switchover.
- Explore support options:
Your provider will explain the specific support available, which might include:
- Free battery backups for landlines and telecare devices: This ensures continued functionality during power outages.
- Free engineering visits: To help with the switchover process and ensure your devices are compatible with digital lines.
- Specialized support for telecare users: Providers are working with local authorities and telecare providers to ensure continuity of service.
- Don't hesitate to ask for help:
If you are unsure about any aspect of the switchover, reach out to your provider or REPLY TO THIS EMAIL AND IT WILL BE FORWARDED TO THE PARISH COUNCIL WHO WILL FIND SOMEONE IN THE BALDONS TO HELP YOU
