| Proposed Car Park Sites 6 January, 2014 | CONSULTATION MEETING HELD 6th JANUARY 2014
This meeting was held to discuss the situation regarding car parking in the village and to invite comments and suggestions.
The initial suggestion was for an area stretching away from the bus shelter along Barn Hill. Mr. Pennington has agreed in principle to lease the land to the Parish Council.
Another suggestion was to widen the road opposite Sturt Cottages to give the residents there room to park. A lay-by could be provided if the hedge was removed.
The initial plan was to provide eight extra places for parking. It was suggested that up to twelve places might be needed. It was also suggested that six places could be made available on each site.
It was suggested that places could be reserved for a fee. Permit parking was also suggested. It was also suggested that the lease should be paid for by the residents concerned. It might also be possible to apply for a grant.
Parking at the crossroads was already crowded. It was pointed out that parking within 50 feet of a junction was illegal.
Before anything further could be done, it would be necessary to consult the landowner and to obtain estimates. It would be necessary to apply for planning permission and listed building consent, especially as the hedge on Union Hill was a Devon stone-based hedge. There were also various utilities using the area on Union Hill.
